Rabat Morocco

The framework is for putting on a cover in bad weather so that the ground floor courtyard can still be used. Art at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Parliament building. The King of Morocco, unlike the Queen of England, makes governance decisions.  A very large cemetery that is still being used. This older cemetery across the road is no longer in use. Original entrance gate of Kasbah Oudayas.  The Kasbah was originally constructed as a fortress but became a  residential refuge when  the Catholic Queen of Spain expelled all  Jews and Muslims in the early 1600s. Colors & Textures of Rabat Morocco

  We arrived in Casablanca and immediately went to Rabat.  We are staying in the Medina (old city) of Rabat.  The streets (pedestrians and motorcycles) are all cobblestone and the walls are mostly white and very tall - 2/3 stories. We haven’t entirely gotten lost yet but our maps have been a bit confused.  There are a few distinguishing landmarks such as the decoration around this door. Another elaborate door. We have passed a couple of places that appeared to be workshops for doing this type of woodwork. Murals are helpful landmarks too; this burro is across from the door of our riad. Beautiful wooden doors are common. Elaborate tile is less common in the medina. “Alleys” off of the market streets are sometimes brightly painted.  Not certain if it is to attract the eye of potential shoppers and/or to make the space more welcoming. This theater is outside the medina. After white, blue is the next most common color. We haven’t seen purple bougainvillea but plenty...
